With its headquarters in Dallas, Texas Southwest Airlines is among the major US airlines and one of the world’s largest low cost carriers. Established in 1967, it acquired its current name in 1971. The Fleet
In the 1970s, Southwest Airilnes operated using one Boeing model, but as of June 2014, its fleet consists of close to 683 Boeing jets. The models comprise of 47 B717-200s, with a capacity of 117 seats, 122 B737-300s with 143 seats, 14 B 737-500s with a 122 seat capacity, 434 B737-700s with 143 seats and 66 737-800s with 175 passenger seats. All these aircraft are young, with an average age of approximately 11 years.

As of December 2014, the airline flies to major business and holiday destinations in 43 states and cover 93 destinations in the US and neighboring countries of the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Among the most popular destinations in North America are Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Salt Lake City, El Paso, New Orleans, Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, Milwaukee, New York, Washington DC, Boston and several more. It has recently started serving more international destinations to the Caribbean and parts of Mexico.

The airline has a robust selection of in-flight entertainment via the largest satellite based Wi-Fi system in the world.
